February City Council meeting – new Commissioner confirmed, Mayor requests extension of Comcast franchise

At the February 5th City Council meeting Maria Guerra Lapacek was confirmed as the city’s new Commissioner of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection. We welcome the new Commissioner and look forward to meeting with her to discuss our concerns about CAN TV and the Comcast franchise renewal.

Also at the meeting Mayor Rahm Emanuel referred an ordinance to the Committee on Finance for an extension of Comcast’s cable franchise agreement, set to expire on March 15. There will likely be a vote on this extension at the next City Council meeting March 5th.

We are concerned that an extension is already in the works and there’s some delay in working out an agreement over Comcast’s franchise renewal.
